CyberConnect2 President and CEO, Hiroshi Matsuyama, talked about the process of being able to move outside of the Naruto franchise, in a recent Famitsu interview.
For the past 10 years, CyberConnect2 have been asked by fans to make a licensed game aside from Naruto. They were finally able to respond with the announcement of Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure: All-Star Battle after getting consent from Shueisha, known mostly for publishing Jump magazines. However, it wasn’t as easy as it sounds.
Speaking with Famitsu, CyberConnect2 CEO Hiroshi Matsuyama said, “At first, Shueisha told us ‘You said you wouldn’t cheat on Naruto!’ and honestly, we weren’t able work on anything else but Naruto titles, at the time. Over the years, our company has grown and we can now take on other titles. Shueisha acknowledged that and have given us their consent.”
Matsuyama continued, “Character based games actually require more resolution on our part compared to original titles. Not only are we responsible for characters made by other people, but we also have the responsibility to meet the standards for the fans of the original work. It’s a lot of responsibility on our shoulders. With that in mind, we’re working with three times the resolution to meet the expectations that are thrice the usual.”
Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure: All-Star Battle is slated to be released on August 29th.
