Grasshopper Manufacture’s next title, Killer is Dead, puts you in the shoes of Mondo Zappa, a 35 year old chap from America who just joined the executioners. Zappa’s job is to kill other killers and people who have committed heinous crimes. Killer is Dead, Famitsu explains, is a story about life and death.
Zappa hold a katana in his right hand and his left hand has been augmented so it can turn into different weapons like a gun and a drill. As the game progresses, Zappa’s augmented arm will become more powerful. The arm absorbs the blood from slain foes and charges up an Adrenaline Burst, which gives Zappa a powerful slashing attack. There is a bit of mystery around his augmented arm since Zappa has no memory of the event. Killer is Dead concept art shows a man with a katana and what appears to be a metallic hand. Perhaps, this is an early idea for Zappa?
Did we mention Mondo is a sweet talker? He charmed Mika Takekawa, a 20 year old woman from Japan, into living with him. Mika makes Zappa his favorite dish, soft boiled eggs, and is his assistant. Viviane Squall, a 25 year old woman from England, is Mondo’s boss. In front of clients, Viviane never loses her cool, but in private she can fly off the handle. Because she can keep her feelings sealed up, Viviane is seen as perfect and is well respected. Brian Roses is the 65 year old director of the executioners. He has a cybernetic body and used to be the world’s top executioner, but now he stepped away from the field. Finally, we have Victor a mysterious musician that can control people’s emotions with music. Victor who has a skeletal apperance vows to bring evil to the world.
Killer is Dead is scheduled to come out this summer on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Kadokawa Games will publish the title in Japan and former Tecmo CEO Yoshimi Yasuda is listed as the excutive producer. Goichi Suda is the game’s director.
