Nintendo have announced a release date for their Nintendo TVii app on the Wii U in North America—December 20th.

Nintendo TVii is an app for the Wii U that connects to all the video services you’ve subscribed to—like Comcast cable, Amazon Instant Video or Hulu Plus—and integrates them into a single interface, which you can control on the Wii U GamePad. It also allows for sharing of comments via Miiverse, Facebook and Twitter.

At launch, Nintendo TVii will be compatible with Hulu Plus and Amazon Instant Video. In early 2013, the app will be made compatible with Netflix and TiVo.

Note that while the Nintendo TVii app itself is free, you’ll still require a subscription to a video or cable service in order for it to work.
