Ubisoft Motion Pictures, the film and television division of Ubisoft, will develop the upcoming Assassin’s Creed movie in collaboration with the New Regency production company, Ubisoft announced today.

The partnership, Ubisoft say, will allow them to maintain creative control of the movie and the development of a screenplay will be beginning immediately. Attached to the film is actor, Michael Fassbender, but just what role he will be taking on has not been specified.

“Bringing aboard New Regency’s renowned production and distribution expertise while maintaining our own creative and financial flexibility ensures that Assassin’s Creed will be a high-quality film that respects the lore and fans of the video game franchise,” said Jean-Julien Baronnet, chief executive officer of Ubisoft Motion Pictures.

Ubisoft’s Motion Pictures division was created at the start of 2011, with the intent of expanding the company’s franchises into other forms of media such as film and television. Presumably, we’ll see more Ubisoft games make the move from games to movies in the future.
