Yesterday, Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn got a new trailer (watch it above in case you missed it). Producer, Naoki Yoshida, says that the new trailer was created because he wanted to use the Final Fantasy Crystal Theme in a trailer for the game. However, the first trailer was designed in more of a blockbuster style, and the theme wouldn’t have fit in, which is why a second one was created.

“For old-school FF fans out there like me, I hope that you can feel a nice mix of the old and the new—some nostalgia and some novelty,” Yoshida says in a new Letter from the Producer column.

While the intent of the new trailer was to convey a sense of nostalgia, the previous trailer, titled “The Fate of Eorzea,” was meant to have a wide appeal.

Yoshida writes: “The title of the trailer is The Fate of Eorzea, and in editing, the cuts, voiceover, and music were put together with the aim of appealing to people all around the world in a big way. That’s why it might look a little different from other FF series stuff you’ve seen up till now. We tried to make it as much like a hit Hollywood blockbuster trailer as we could.”

Yoshida says that in-game footage is coming soon. Square plan to show the game’s new content and features, walkthroughs on some of the maps, and the overhauled combat and Battle Regimen systems. More of these will be shown leading up to A Realm Reborn’s release this year, and Yoshida will discuss other matters such as the game’s new logo and some of the keywords Square have been using to promote the game.

Prior to that, however, the development team will release patches 1.23a and 1.23b. The former will go live on August 13th.
