In an ocean of motion controlled mini-game compilations what makes Help Wanted stand out? That’s the question I had in my mind when I sat down to try the game. For starters, Help Wanted (aka Hatarakuhito: Hard Working People) has a sense of humor. Any game that has players milking cows by tugging on the nunchuck and remote can’t be taken too seriously. In the cow milking game you can score combos by sticking to a rhythm, but if you pull too fast or at random the cow gets aggravated. Keeping a combo earns players more money and if you’re competing with a friend whoever gets the most money wins.
The money you earn in Help Wanted goes to a comet defense fund. Earth is about to be destroyed from a collision and everyone in the game is doing odd jobs to earn money to save the planet. But, the plan isn’t perfect. Hijinks ensue. Hudson doesn’t want players to take Help Wanted too seriously, it’s supposed to be a light hearted game. One second you’re milking cows and the next you’re flipping meat on a grill by twisting the remote. Watch out, if you burn three pieces of meat in Grill Cook the game is over.
Hudson is preparing 50 games for Help Wanted and most of them are intuitive. The Farmer game has players yank vegetables from the ground by lifting the remote. In Tailor you tilt the remote to steer fabric into a sewing machine. Bodybuilder had players make poses with the remote and nunchuck. Then there is Master Higgins… which Hudson didn’t have ready to play. Yes, there really is a game called Master Higgins, based on the real life button mashing master, in Help Wanted. Other games that caught my eye were Game Creator, Sumo Referee, and Arctic Delivery. However, not all of these games have head-to-head multiplayer only fifteen of them do and that number includes Farmer and Cow Milking.
