New Super Mario Bros. 2 on the Nintendo 3DS will have full co-op multiplayer, but it won’t be online, Nintendo have revealed. The game will feature Mario and Luigi, and you’ll be able to play through the entire game with a friend if you like.

If you’re playing cooperatively, the game will restrict both players’ movements so they’re both visible on the screen at the same time. The camera will be tied to whichever player is out in front, and the other player will need to keep up.

Nintendo also detailed a new mode—Coin Rush, where you only have a single life, and need to collect as many coins as possible across three levels. Coin Rush stages are the same stages as the game’s regular mode, but there are changes such as 1-UP mushrooms being changed to 50 coins. Coin Rush also lets you share scores with friends via StreetPass.

New Super Mario Bros. 2 will be released on August 19th.
