Capcom revealed an interesting new feature for Dragon’s Dogma today. As you may be aware, Dragon’s Dogma doesn’t have any multiplayer modes. Instead, what it will have is an asynchronous MMORPG-like “raid” in the form of a boss battle with a creature called the Ur-Dragon.
If you have your Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 connected to the Internet, the damage your and your pawns do to the Ur-Dragon in your game will be added up to the damage that other players do to it in their own games. The effects and damage of all of these different parties will be stacked until the creature is finally defeated.
Capcom say the Ur-Dragon is powerful and will require multiple encounters to defeat. All players who inflict damage upon it will be rewarded, but the greatest reward will go to whomever manages to deal the killing blow. All players’ names will also be recorded in a Hall of Fame. There’s no mention of when and where you’ll find the Ur-Dragon, however. Just that you’ll encounter it “somewhere”.
In the event that your console is not connected to the Internet, you’ll still get to fight the Ur-Dragon in your game, but the rewards will be different. You can watch a teaser for the Ur-Dragon battle above.
Dragon’s Dogma will be released on May 22nd in North America and May 25th in Europe.
