Last year, Namco Bandai released Tales of Xillia on the PlayStation 3, calling it a 15th anniversary celebration of the series, along with heavy promotion and a commitment to supporting the game with downloadable content post-launch. All of that effort appears to have paid off.
Tales of Xillia has sold 760,000 copies in Japan as of December 2011, Namco Bandai shared in a report of their third fiscal quarter today. They shared figures for a few other major games as well:
Mobile Suit Gundam: Extreme Vs. – 550,000
Ben 10: Galactic Racing – 440,000 (US/EU)
AKB1/48: I Fell in Love With an Idol in Guam – 410,000
One Piece: Gigant Battle 2 New World – 350,000
Gundam: Extreme Vs. has already beaten expectations; Namco expected to sell 500,000 copies of that game. Ben 10 on the other hand, was expected to sell 600,000 copies between the U.S. and Europe, but has only reached 440,000 so far. Perhaps it will make that number by the end of the fiscal year, on March 31st.
Thanks to strong business, Namco Bandai secured an operating income of 30.7 billion yen ($80.6 million) for the first three quarters (April – December) of their ongoing fiscal year, up 85.3% from the previous year.
They’ve also raised their earning projections for the full financial year. They now expect revenues of 440 billion ($5.7 billion), up 11.6%, and  net income (profits) of 18.5 billion yen ($238.1 million), nearly up a whopping 901% as compared to the previous year.
