British publication, Business Weekly, report that Capcom and Ninja Theory’s DmC Devil May Cry is being shot at the same Los Angeles studio that James Cameron used to shoot Avatar. Reportedly, many of the same crew members that worked on Avatar are working on DmC as well.

Ninja Theory say they’re striving more for believability than realism by employing techniques that will allow them to convey their live-action actors’ facial expressions and body movements within the game.

“We track the exact movement of our actors. We have 60 markers on their faces alone — on their eyes, their eyebrows, their mouths, their noses, their lips and so on,” says Ninja Theory’s Dominic Matthews. This is done using the company’s own technological solution to conveying facial expressions, which Ninja Theory have been developing for several years now.

“We want our users to become engrossed in a story; so we are not simply using the technology for technology’s sake. It really enriches the user experience and they become fully engaged,” Matthews believes.
