Sony have provided an interesting tidbit of information about the PlayStation Vita on their PlayStation Blog: the Vita was designed by Takashi Sogabe of Sony’s Corporate Design Centre, the same person responsible for designing the original Walkman. He’s been with Sony for 27 years.

Before it reached its current design, other designs pitched for the Vita included: a sliding back design like PSPgo, a clamshell, and a design with a metallic exterior. That last one was scrapped because it would have interfered with the antennae required for the system’s 3G and Wi-Fi features.
