We just heard about Sengoku Basara Heroes, a PSP version of the hack and slash take on the warring states era with ad hoc play. It’s scheduled to come out in Japan in spring 2009 and unlike most of the games in the Sengoku Basara series Capcom might bring it overseas. Christian Svensson, Vice President of Strategic Planning & Business Development, responds to a request about an American release on the Capcom forums with, “Potentially… but maybe not the manner you think…” The quizzical quote is followed by a foot in the mouth smiley. Huh?

The first Sengoku Basara game, the title that started the series, was the only game to get released internationally and only after heavy localization. Capcom stripped the Japanese history and threw in more fantasy to make Devil Kings. Could the PSP game pick up where the PlayStation 2 game left off? Or is Capcom planning a good old fashioned “sprite swap” where Date Masamune/Azure Dragon will be replaced with a character from the upcoming Street Fighter movie?
