CyberConnect2 has been making Naruto games for six years now and almost all of those are fighting games. Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Impact, which just came out for PSP, is different since it’s a beat ’em up where Naruto and company punch, kick, and chidori through dozens of enemies at once. I asked Hirsohi Matsuyama, CyberConnect2 CEO and Naruto super fan, why he tried a different genre with Ultimate Ninja Impact.
"[Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja] Storm 2 was released for PS3 & Xbox 360 only. I wanted to release Ultimate Ninja Impact on a handheld system so that the younger Naruto fans could afford to enjoy the game. I’m not sure if Impact will become a series of it’s own, but it does represent an opportunity to try something entirely new," Matsuyama answered.
"Other Naruto games we have made are mainly fighting games at their core. For Impact, we wanted to present players with a fully 3D environment to battle through and see impressive anime action along the way. I really want everyone to give Impact a try. I think the game presents truly refreshing action game fun!"
Since CyberConnect2 dabbled with 3D beat ’em ups, I asked Matsuyama if he is considering to try any other genres for Naruto, but he said he is undecided about that right now. CyberConnect2’s other project is Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm Generations which will be available for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 this spring.
