Lumines made its debut on the PSP so it’s fitting to see the musical block dropping game come out as a PlayStation Network download. However, it doesn’t look like much has changed in Lumines Supernova. The sequencer from Lumines II is incorporated in the PS3 version with a few more options and there is a “Dig Down mode” where players have to erase existing blocks on the screen. Dig Down mode sounds similar to B-Type Tetris. Brand new skins made for Lumines Supernova should hook existing fans to give this a look.
The final build will have 40 skins, 20 dig down puzzles, 100 regular puzzles, and 50 missions when it comes out in the fall for an unspecified price. Lumines Supernova sounds like a more complete experience than the base back on Xbox Live Arcade, but one key feature was absent from the fact sheet. After Lumines’ romp on Xbox Live Arcade I would expect to see an online mode too, but Q Entertainment didn’t specify if Lumines Supernova will or will not support online play.
