Camera controlled EyeToy mini-games are huge in Europe even though the accessory didn’t explode in other regions. EyeToy Play: Hero takes the series in a new direction, a Dragon Quest Swords direction, by letting players slash at the screen as if they had a sword. Sony Computer Entertainment Europe’s game actually comes with the toy sword pictured above. While the green blade screams Star Wars it becomes a shimmering silver sword when you point it at the camera.

Players can use the blade to block attacks from the Black Knight and light passages to traverse through caves. There are 20 “challenges” (aka mini-games) in EyeToy Play: Hero. But, not all enemies can be defeated with the packaged sword. You have to shout at the screen to scare off bats. Parents are going to love that. The basic graphics make EyeToy Play: Hero look like a flash game, but young kids shouldn’t care about that. Sony missed an opportunity here since this sword swinging game could have appealed to a broader demographic. Right now EyeToy Play: Hero is only announced for Europe and it’s scheduled for release in October.

Oh and it looks Octommamoth’s cousin makes a cameo in EyeToy Play: Hero.
