In an interview with the PlayStation blog, Dax Ginn, marketing game manager at Rocksteady Studios, further discussed the other two playable characters in Batman: Arkham City and how they’ve been re-imagined for the game.

Speaking to Catwoman’s look, Ginn says her costume design was driven by the game’s hostile environment. “Her Catsuit has a military feel — if you look closely then you’ll see a very fine black and grey camouflage pattern, in keeping with her being very difficult to detect in the shadows,” he pointed out.

In the case of Robin, since the character is only playable in challenge maps, the focus was on differentiating his abilities from Batman’s.

“To fit in our world then he needs to be hard-hitting and have abilities that are approaching the potency of Batman’s, so he has a bow staff and shield, and he is an explosions specialist, with vision augmentation that allows him to identify explosives in the environment,” Ginn shared. “Robin is a complex character and very different to Batman — it’s not a case that we’ve just reskinned him.”

Finally, on the subject of Batman’s alter-ego, Bruce Wayne, Ginn says that Rocksteady are opting to to steer clear of exploring Bruce as they feel the things one would do as Bruce Wayne wouldn’t be very exciting. That said, Batman’s more vulnerable side will be exposed through Hugo Strange — who knows his identity — and Talia, who “has a romantic relationship with him”.

Food for thought:

This could just be a case of two different people providing different perspectives, but does this mean Talia will take the spotlight as Batman’s significant other? When we spoke to writer, Paul Dini, about Catwoman at Comic-Con, he told us that there would be “heat” between Batman and Catwoman, and not much else.
