Period: The week of Jul 11th – Jul 17th (2011)
Top-seller: Power Pro Baseball – 117,759
Nintendo 3DS sales: 46,637 | Total sales: 1,257,915
Last week saw a lot of big releases in Japan. Leading the charge was another of Konami’s immensely popular sports games, Power Pro Baseball for the PlayStation 3, at #1 with 117,759 copies sold. At #2 was Taiko no Tatsujin Portable DX for the PSP at 80,000.
Following close behind at #3 was Level 5’s Inazuma Eleven Strikers, which released a little later than games usually do in Japan. Strikers was released on Saturday as opposed to Thursday, which gave it two days to chart instead of the usual four. In its opening weekend, Strikers sold 74,227 copies. Behind it was Power Pro again, this time on PSP.
All four of these games are from series that have a tendency to sell consistently over long periods of time, so it should be interesting to watch them in the weeks to come.
Meanwhile, debuting at #6 was Star Fox 64 3D. The Flare Red Nintendo 3DS also saw its release last week, giving 3DS system sales a significant boost. 3DS sales were over double the week prior. Following Star Fox at #7 was FuRyu’s UnchainBlades ReXX for the PSP.
Finally, in a twist, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D actually sold more units last week than it did the week prior, while The Little Battlers dropped. The latter was initially ahead of Ocarina 3D by about 4,000 units, but there’s barely a difference now. Perhaps a few people picked up Star Fox 64 3D and Ocarina of Time 3D together with a new 3DS?
