Following a rather bitter experience with The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks, Nintendo sent out a substantially lower number of copies of Ocarina of Time 3D to Japanese game stores for the game’s launch last week. Going by sales tracker Media-Create’s report, their estimates were right on the money.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D sold 164,110 copies in its first week in Japan. Media-Create say this amounts to 90.02% of all copies of the game that were sent out to retail shops for selling.

For reference, Spirit Tracks received a colossal shipment of over 580,000 copies when it was released back in 2009. Unfortunately, it sold less than half that number at launch, which resulted in the game quickly being slashed in price. Demand and supply being more balanced in the case of Ocarina 3D should help prevent a repeat of that scenario.

Meanwhile, Level 5’s The Little Battlers was a notable success, too. That game sold 166,187 copies on the PSP in its first week, which amounts to 80.47% of all copies that were sent out to stores. It should be very interesting to see how both games hold up in the weeks to come.
