Tomb Raider Reboot Was Called Cryptids And Starred "Sarah"

Remember the Tomb Raider script Siliconera outlined? We obtained an earlier draft of the script with a few interesting changes. While the scene with Conrad Roth is nearly the same, the main character in this version is "Sarah Beele". The game at this time was also called Cryptids, perhaps a code name?

This early draft mentions the route Lara, ahem "Sarah", took. She used an 18th century map of the Northern Sea Route and a modern map of Japan’s ocean currents. Lara circled an area east of Okinawa where the Kuroshio current changes. Crystal Dynamics also notes players will see illustrations of Martyn Shpanberg’s voyage to Japan.

Another change in the script is at the tail end, right before Lara/Sarah runs off into the night, Roth hands Lara an axe. In an early draft, "Sarah" stands up, hooks the axe to her belt, and grabs a radio transmitter. A later version notes Lara’s hesitation. Roth throws the axe to the ground. Lara stares at it wondering if she’s ready to go on a journey. She reaches for the axe and Roth warns her to be careful. "Sarah", as she’s written in the early draft, is a tad more gung-ho than Lara.
