Sega is localizing a seventeen year old Sega Genesis game for Wii and PlayStation 3. Released back in 1994, Monster World IV continues the Wonder Boy series with a new protagonist. While many Monster World games were localized, Sega skipped this one.
But, Monster World IV will be released in English soon! Following the ESRB listing Siliconera dug up, Sega announced they are working on an English version of Monster World IV. It’s rare to see publishers dig into ROMs and localize Japan-only classics. Kudos to Sega for taking on the challenge.
Monster World IV is part of the next set of Sega Vintage collection titles. Wonder Boy in Monster Land (arcade version), Wonder Boy in Monster World (Genesis), Revenge of Shinobi (Genesis), and Alex Kidd in Miracle World (Master System) are also on deck for release. All of these titles will be available on PlayStation Network and Virtual Console between late 2011 and early 2012.
Hmm… that’s interesting. The ESRB rating notes Monster World IV is for Xbox 360 too, but Sega makes no mention of it in their announcement.
