In a shocking turn of events (and the last electrical pun), a sequel to Elebits may be heading to the Nintendo DS. Gamefly has Elebits 2 in their database as a Nintendo DS title, scheduled to come out on August 30. The release date is most likely a placeholder, but this is a good sign we will see a sequel to the room wrecking game in the future.
The platform change is surprising considering Konami developed the original game on the Wii. Since they already have code and possibly an engine it should be more cost effective to develop the sequel on the same platform. I wonder if Konami feels their original Wii games underperformed. Despite its charm and being a launch window title Elebits wasn’t a smash hit. Also Dewy’s Adventure dropped in price very quickly after it came out. Gamestop has brand new copies priced at $20. It’s too bad neither of these got as much attention, but I suppose Elebits will find a happy home on the DS. Making new levels with the stylus should be easier too.
