The NicoNicoPedia X (formerly Twitter) account revealed the popular Internet buzzwords of 2024, and Mobile Suit Gundam Seed Freedom appeared in first place. The Mighty Strike Freedom Gundam also appears in fifth place, meaning that two words from the series appear in the top 10 of this ranking.
Aside from the Mighty Strike Freedom Gundam and Mobile Suit Gundam Seed Freedom, five different Gundam Seed characters and mobile suits appear in the ranking as well. Other popular series and memes include: cat memes, My Deer Friend Nokotan, Yusuf Dikeç, Palworld, Detective Conan, and Delicious in Dungeon. This ranking uses user votes, so it might not be accurate to everyone’s online experiences.
Mobile Suit Gundam Seed Freedom is a theatrical sequel to Seed and Destiny. Production on the film began in 2006, but delays occurred due to difficulties with animation and main writer Chiaki Morosawa’s health issues. Freedom was the highest grossing film in the franchise, as well as the second highest grossing Japanese movie from Shochiku. It also was the most-watched film on Netflix. A prequel to Freedom, Freedom Zero, is in production and the Blu-Rays for Freedom will come out on December 25, 2024.
