Sega broadcasted a VF Direct program on its YouTube channel. Following the reveal of a brand-new Virtua Fighter game project at The Game Awards 2024, the company used the program to publish more information related to its fighting game series. Two of the program’s highlights were the Version 2 update release for VF5 Ultimate Showdown and the launch of the open beta test for its upcoming PC port, Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O.
The Version 2 update for VF5 Ultimate Showdown brought in more than just gameplay balance adjustments. Sega also added brand-new combos for each playable character as it brought back several moves and attacks that appeared in prior series iterations. Meanwhile, the Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. open beta test is intended to test the overall online matching quality and the rollback netcode in particular. The public test will run for five days starting from December 13, 2024.
In addition, Sega also revealed purchase incentives for Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. The limited 30th Anniversary Edition will come with bonus in-game content like swimsuit costumes and the Yakuza / Like a Dragon DLC pack, as well as digital bonuses like sets of wallpapers and pre-production art. Players who have pre-ordered the game before release can also receive character customization items based on the legacy Sega consoles Mega Drive / Genesis, Saturn, and Dreamcast.
Virtua Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown is readily available for PlayStation 4 and arcades. The same fighting game will appear on PC via Steam as Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. on January 27, 2025.
