The difficulty in PoE 2 can catch you off guard if you’re not careful, especially in some of the game’s early boss fights. The Devourer is likely the second boss you’ll meet and he can be a bit of a roadblock, so here’s how to defeat it in Path of Exile 2.
Where to Find the Mud Burrow in PoE 2
The Devourer is located in a dungeon called the Mud Burrow, which you can access via the Clearfell area just outside the encampment. Because the areas are procedurally generated there’s no fixed location, so you’ll need to search the area for the burrow entrance, though we’ve found it pretty consistently by just going north-east. Once inside you’ll find a labyrinth that, again, you’ll need to search on your own. Thankfully there are checkpoint nodes that usually mean you’re going in the right direction, but if all else fails hug the outside wall of the dungeon and follow it round.
You’ll find the boss in a large open area with a number of holes in the ground and a symbol on the minimap naming it the Vile Nest. Move into the center of the room and the Devourer should appear and start the boss fight.
Devourer Boss Guide for Path of Exile 2
The Devourer will start off shooting red projectiles. Block or dodge them and, if possible, try to get some attacks in. If you get in close, it will swipe at you or perform a poison slam attack that leaves a puddle on the ground. You can exploit the long wind-up of this move by getting behind it for some free hits whenever you see its body start to glow green.
After chunking down a bit of health, the Devourer will burrow underground to reposition, leaving body segments around the arena that can’t be attacked but do block movement. Avoid the large red AoE that marks where it will resurface, dealing damage and summoning a few grubs. Take out the grubs to top up your flask but mind out for two new, longer ranged poison attacks. One is a straight shot, while another will spray over an area. Look for which direction the head rears back in and get ready to roll out of range.
At even lower health the Devourer will start spawning even more grubs when it repositions. Trying to clear them out can take a while, so unless you’ve got some really strong AoE it may be best to kite them away. One of the body segments will also become a tail that can perform large smash attacks that deal significant damage. Stay out of range of the wide sweeps but keep an eye out for the long shatter waves. Continue whacking away at the worm’s head and you’ll eventually take down the Devourer in Path of Exile 2.
