Pick up “A Legacy of Destruction” from Alyx in WoW’s 20th Anniversary Celebration area, then talk to Voidfire in the Pet Corner to start “From Ashes to Wisdom.” This quest takes you to various places linked to Cataclysm, so get ready for some flying and diving.

Lesson one: The Burning Steppes

First up is the Burning Steppes in the Eastern Kingdoms. Alliance players can fly northeast from Stormwind to get there, while Horde can use the Twilight Highlands portal in Orgrimmar’s Valley of Wisdom.

  • /way #36 60.83 30.22

Land in the destroyed area northeast of Ruins of Thaurissian and use the Whelping Whistle to summon Voidfire. Next, talk to Voidfire and select “This is what happens with fire and volcanic disruption. It leaves the area dark and barren.”

Lesson two: Scar of the Worldbreaker

Voidfire tells you that he wants to “leave a scar on the world,” which naturally brings us to the Scar of the Worldbreaker in the Badlands. Luckily, that’s the zone directly north of Burning Steppes, making this a short flight.

  • /way #15 30.87 48.85

Fly into the Badlands, and the location you need to land in will be marked in-game. Summon Voidfire using the whistle if he disappears and select “This scar will not heal and will always serve as a reminder of Deathwing’s wrath and the devastation he caused on the land and its inhabitants.”

Lesson three: Twilight Highlands

Next up, Voidfire says he wants “followers to do [his] bidding,” which means traveling to Twilight Highlands. Fly a few kilometers north into Twilight Highlands and the next location will be marked on your map. You know the drill by now.

Lesson four: Vash’jir

Finally, Voidfire’s curiosity about flooding leads us to the underwater zone of Vash’jir. If you’ve been there before, take the portal in your capital city and travel to the Shimmering Expanse manually or via a seahorse taxi. The final location for “From Ashes to Wisdom” will be marked on your map.

If you haven’t been to Vash’jir before, you have two options of getting there:

  • Purchase a water-breathing potion and fly from Dun Morogh. Don’t worry; dynamic flight will get you there fast enough to beat fatigue. Vash’jir is the westmost area in the Eastern Kingdoms.
  • Alternatively, players can start the Vash’jir storyline and complete a handful of quests to travel there, unlock underwater breathing, and gain a movement buff.

Dive into the Ruins of Vash’jir and summon Voidfire a final time, then talk to him to complete “From Ashes to Wisdom.” For teaching Voidfire a valuable lesson on not destroying the world, you’ll receive 5 Bronze Celebration Tokens and complete “The Case of Great Aspirations” part of the “Assistant to the Assistant Guest Relations Manager” Achievement.
