Square Enix announced that NetEase is about to take over Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent, its mobile game based on HD-2D series. The turnover will happen on January 16, 2025, and it seems those of us who are playing will be able to continue to do so without interruption.
The official announcement appeared on social media and in-game, with Producers Hirohito Suzuki and Takahiro Inoue discussing what will happen with the Square Enix Octopath Traveler mobile game after the handover. Apparently, this transition means NetEase will continue to develop new content for the game. It will also maintain existing elements. So if someone plays, their save can still be used. However, this will mean someone will have to perform a data transfer. That process is discussed in the in-game notice.
Here is the full statement about NetEase taking over Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent.
“First, we’d like to thank all the players of Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent.
As of Thursday, January 16, 2025, service operations for Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent will be transferred to NetEase Interactive Entertainment.
With the 2.5-year anniversary approaching in January 2025, we decided that the best way to continue to provide quality content for everyone was to work in collaboration with NetEase.
As for additional main story content and such for which we’ve received many requests, everything is planned for release after operations have been transferred to NetEase.
Players will of course be able to transfer their game data and continue their adventures. Please see the in-game notices for more information regarding the data transfer process.
We are sincerely grateful for all the support we have received for Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent. We hope you look forward to future developments that we will continue to offer with our partner, NetEase.”
The Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent mobile game is available on Android and Apple iOS devices worldwide. There is also a manga based on it available in Japan.
