Farming is Fields of Mistria’s central feature. Players can plant seeds, nurture them to maturity, and harvest their crops as the seasons come and go. Through a combination of special skills and magical abilities, farming in Mistria can become a task to fully engross yourself in. Despite the creative freedom, some of us would rather get down to business. Different crops result in different profits. Depending on how deep into your playthrough you are, some are flat-out not worth the time or money. This is most important during the Summer, where crop selection is at its most varied. Here are the best crops for Summer in Fields of Mistria, ranked in order of best value- and when you should be using them.
Best Crops for Summer in Fields of Mistria
3. Chili Pepper/Sugar Cane
Let’s assume you haven’t started your farming adventures in Fields of Mistria just yet. Chili Pepper and Sugar Cane are going to be your best friends in the early days of Summer. Although more expensive than Cucumber, both of these crops are still fairly cheap while offering better overall profits. Not even the longer growth cycle for chili pepper will impede your income. Averaging out the tesserae per day you’re earning by planting them, chili pepper earns about six tesserae per day compared to cucumber’s three. That doesn’t seem like much, but if you multiply it by the number of seeds you’re buying, it starts to add up! Similar to upgraded crops in other seasons, sugar cane is identical to chili pepper with two key differences. It’s worth 80 tesserae, five more than the peppers. More importantly, with a working mill, you can convert it into Sugar. Sugar sells for 100 tesserae. All it costs is some crafting time to give your basic Summer crop a 25% increase in value! Once the general store starts offering sugar cane, it’s a smart move to switch over from chili peppers.
2. Watermelon
If you made decent money during the Spring season, it’s better to keep the ball rolling by purchasing some Watermelon seeds. At 70 tesserae per seed, watermelon is a bigger investment. Its nine-day growth cycle is also pretty intimidating. However, being able to sell watermelon for 180 tesserae- more than double its seed price- makes it worthwhile. Watermelon profits average to about 12 tesserae per day. That’s only two tesserae per day more than converting sugar cane into sugar, but if you don’t have access to the mill yet it makes a huge difference. Due to its long growth period but solid returns, watermelon is the go-to crop for players who don’t want to spend too much time sowing their fields. It’s a great option if you want something simple to grow.
1. Corn/Tea
You might be thinking corn and tomato are in a similar position as chili pepper and sugar cane. Both seeds are the same price, both take the same amount of time to grow, and both harvests sell for 125 tesserae each. Looks can be deceiving. Corn is a unique crop in Fields of Mistria. It’s one of the few crops that, once you ship it for the first time, unlocks an easy to use recipe. “Grilled Corn” requires a single unit of corn and is worth 135 tesserae each. You can harvest your corn, cook the whole stack, and make a bigger profit over tomatoes! Tea gets an honorable mention here for having the same qualities of corn. The seeds cost and grow the same, but brewing it into “Green Tea” will net you 145 tesserae each. Growing tea is only profitable once it becomes available for sale at the general store. You’ll have to upgrade the town a few times to unlock it. The green tea recipe is also only sold by Darcy at her Market Day stall as well. Once you’ve put the legwork in, Tea is your strongest crop during the Summer.
Keep in mind, this list is only for those wanting to optimize their farming income in Fields of Mistria. There’s no shame in grabbing crops you think would improve your farm’s aesthetics, for example. Summer is just one season in Mistria in which to maximize your profits.
