During your time playing Fields of Mistria, you’ll meet and grow closer to the various townspeople. Among the group of helpful folk trying to repair the town is Hayden, an expert in taking care of animals, and Mistria’s resident farmer before you came along. With his upbeat attitude, Hayden has already won over many hearts. However, winning his isn’t as easy as you might think! Like with any other character in Mistria, you can improve your friendship with Hayden by offering him gifts once a day. But sourcing his absolute favorites isn’t a simple task, nor is it the most effective way to raise your friendship with him. Instead, try focusing on the following gifts. These are the best Fields of Mistria gifts for Hayden, and why it’s a good idea to use them over other options.

Best Fields of Mistria Gifts for Hayden

Despite his easy-going nature, Hayden is surprisingly hard to impress. Like with the other townsfolk, the items you can give him are separated into categories based on how much he likes them. Hayden’s “loved” gifts are almost entirely “golden” variants of various animal husbandry items like mayonnaise or butter. In order to make any of these, you’ll have to unlock farm buildings, adopt animals, and raise their heart points to eight total hearts. Unlocking farm buildings alone can take a considerable amount of time, nevermind the exponentially longer process of befriending your animals. This makes the brunt of Hayden’s “loved” gifts largely inaccessible. The items below are easier to find, and won’t force you to play for 30+ hours to get them. 

Milk and Eggs

Even if you’re keen on obtaining the golden items Hayden loves, the regular versions make fine gifts in the meantime. Hayden only “likes” milk and eggs, so you won’t gain as many friendship points giving him these. That being said, once you have your own cows and chickens, you’ll have a steady income of milk and eggs you can give him every day. Even without farm buildings and animals, you can find what you need at the Inn. Mistria’s inn sells Milk for 120 tesserae each, and Balor’s wagon will sometimes have chicken eggs in stock for 50 tesserae. If you don’t have the animals and money is tight, then start making some. All of Hayden’s best gifts are going to cost you.

Coffee

Not only is coffee a decent gift for Hayden, it’s also popular with more than a few other villagers as well! This makes it a great option if you’re trying to impress multiple people at once. Balor’s wagon will sometimes sell coffee for 100 tesserae. If he doesn’t have it in stock, just be patient. Wait for Market Day (you’ll have to repair the bridge in order to unlock it) at the end of the week, and head over to Darcy’s stall. Darcy sometimes sells coffee for the same price- and you can buy as much as you’d like! With a little long-term planning, you can stockpile coffee to last you the whole week before Darcy’s Stall opens up again. Unfortunately, neither shop might have it available when you visit, but Darcy almost never opens her store without it in-stock. It’s more-or-less a safe bet you’ll be able to buy it in bulk.

Other Inn Items

When all else fails, you can always check the Inn for one of Hayden’s “liked” items. Lucky for us, many of Hayden’s favorite foods are regularly sold at the Inn. These are Apple Pie, Tea With Lemon, Lemon Pie, Loaded Baked Potato, Mushroom Steak Dinner, Sweet Potato Pie, and Wild Berry Pie. If you don’t have any milk, eggs, or coffee for whatever reason, it’s likely you can buy one of these other items to give Hayden. But it will cost you. The cheapest of these items is 330 tesserae. While that sounds like a steep price, remember that the alternative requires a huge time investment.

Becoming friends with Hayden is a lengthy process, but ambushing him with these gifts should make it happen faster. If you’re going to put in the time to get those golden items, then you’re going to need to know how to get a barn in Fields of Mistria.
