Fields of Mistria measures a player’s experience through the time they devote to the many pursuits available to them. In layman’s terms: Fields of Mistria keeps track of how much time you’re spending performing certain actions through the use of skill levels. Almost everything you can do in Mistria has a skill associated with it. Farming, Fishing, Archaeology- the list goes on. Raising your level in a particular skill is needed to craft new items, and unlock unique bonuses when performing certain actions. Of the skills available, cooking is one of the more useful ones. Cooking your own food provides better healing and stamina regeneration items, allowing you to stay out longer and get more done. Here’s a guide on how to cook in Fields of Mistria to get you started.
How to Get a Kitchen in Fields of Mistria
In order to cook, you’re going to need a kitchen. Kitchens can be purchased from the Carpenter Shop for as low as 1,000 tesserae. There are three levels of kitchen you can eventually buy. Each level of kitchen supports an increasingly wider range of cooking levels. In order to cook better recipes, you’ll eventually have to purchase better kitchens! However, if you’re just starting a new playthrough or don’t feel like paying for a kitchen just yet, the inn has a level one kitchen you’re free to use! In any case, once you’re ready to cook, interact with the kitchen to pull up the cooking menu.
How to Cook in Fields of Mistria
While it may seem a bit intimidating at first, the cooking menu is simple enough to understand. On the left-hand side are all the recipes you can choose from. If a recipe has a lock symbol over it, it means you haven’t unlocked it yet. Once you’ve selected a recipe, the right-hand side of the menu will fill in. The top-left square displays all the necessary ingredients for the recipe. Below each ingredient are two numbers separated by a forward-slash. The number on the left is how many units of the ingredient you have. The number on the right is how many you need.
Underneath the ingredients list are two small boxes. These boxes denote what level of kitchen, and what level of cooking skill you need to cook the recipe, respectively. Finally, all the way at the bottom of this menu, is an option to change how many of that specific dish you want to make, and a timer explaining how many in-game minutes (or hours) it will take to make them. Obviously, increasing the amount of times you want to cook the recipe will also increase how many ingredients you need. You can’t cook if there isn’t enough time in the day to do so. If cooking would take too long, consider lowering the amount of dishes you want to make.
With the exception of the number of times you want to cook the dish, if the numbers in every section are green, you’re ready to cook! If one of those numbers is red, you’re missing something. There’s plenty more to do in Fields of Mistria, and it all requires you to unlock an area or obtain a specific kind of tool.
