How to Save in Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake

Dragon Quest 3 is a game from a different time. Save anywhere? I think not! This is somewhat maintained in Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake, which might make figuring out how to save a bit tricky if you’re not familiar with classic entries.

Basically, you need to speak with the clergy. Early on, you’ll run into a nun and church in Aliahan in Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake that, if you speak with them, will offer you the option to save. This is shown as the “Confession” option, though the word “save” will always appear in parenthesis after that. Nuns always wear blue habits. Priests will appear in churches with the cross-shaped iconography on them. So keep an eye out for churches in towns and nuns in towns and other areas.

However, one easy way to save is to just… not do anything. Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake does include an autosave feature. You’ll see a small icon appear in the bottom corner of the screen if this happens.

If you want to check when the last autosave or save occurred, go through the in-game menu and choose to exit to the title screen. When you do this, the game will warn you about leaving without saving. It will then show you your last save and, based on the timing, will allow you to know right away if it was an autosave or one you made at a church representative.

Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake is available on the Nintendo Switch, PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC.
