Once you reach Milldread in Great God Grove, one of your tasks is to assemble the old harvest song to refresh the memories of the townsfolk. However, this is not an easy task and will involve you searching the whole town before applying some creative thinking.
How to Find the First Harvest Song Line
In order to begin assembling the harvest song, you need Budd to teach you the first line. However, Budd is missing from the town, as he’s gone into hiding. He’s hanging out in the abandoned mines but the only way to access them is initially blocked by Bronch the scarecrow.
In order to move him, you need to bring him three crows, who have all gone missing. He informs you that you’ll need to scare them out of bushes and provide no further hints. However, there is one bit of speech you can suck up to scare anyone in town with ease. Head to Cobigail’s realm at the back of the schoolhouse and they will attempt to spook you. When they say “Boo!”, suck it up and ready yourself to find the crows.
The crows can all be found in bushes, indicated by the bush wiggling. You’ll need to fire the “Boo!” at the bush then suck up the crow that emerges. Here are the locations of all three crows:
- Right in front of Bronch, by the mailbox.
- On the opposite side of this area, to the right of the Cobigail effigy and route blocked by vines.
- Back at the entrance to Milldread, next to one of the Bizzyboys.
Shoot the crows at Bronch and he’ll be able to move out of your way. Before entering the door behind him, make sure to collect the “I thwear on my life” line from Bayker and “I hate that shaggy little man” lines from Saul.
You’ll find Budd in the passage behind Bronch, where he will ask you to promise you’re not one of Saul’s minions and then insult him to prove it. Use the two lines above in that order to meet the criteria, and Budd will relax and inform you of the first line of the song.
How to Find the Remaining Harvest Song Lines
Once you’ve obtain the first harvest song line from Budd in Great God Grove, you now need to collect the others from the children of Milldread. The process for this is the same as the crows, as they’re all hiding. This time you just need to approach them and talk to them, and they’ll each give you a line of the song. Here’s where to find them all:
- Behind the candles in front of the Cobigail effigy.
- With the pigs next to the bakery, to the right of the effigy site.
- Behind the outhouse near the town entrance, on the right-hand side.
How to Create the Harvest Song
Collecting all the harvest song lines is only half the solution to freeing Milldread in Great God Grove. The lines are presented to you in a random order, and you need to figure out the correct order.
First of all, you need to find where to shoot the song lines, since it’s not obvious. Go into the mine passage where Budd is hanging out. Walk past him and you’ll find a small tree in a clearing. This is your target.
To assemble the song, you’ll need to shoot the four lines in the correct order at the tree, one after the other. After each line, a timer will appear on the tree, so you need to get the next line in before it depletes. The song has a logical order you may be able to guess on your own, but if you’re stuck, you can get a hint from Cobigail.
However, if you still can’t figure out the correct order, this is it:
- “A bonfire in the evening breeze; an Autumn jubilee.”
- “The snacks are made of friendliness; the drinks are filled with glee.”
- “Join your hands with anyone, sing in any key.”
- “Our differences will bring us close, and Milldread we shall be.”
Once the song is complete, leave the mines to see the effect the song has on the town.
