The Beginners’ Wish in Genshin Impact is a gacha banner exclusive to novice players of the game, giving you a basic pool of 4-star and 5-star characters to potentially get. While the Beginners’ Wish banner doesn’t include later standard characters like Tighnari or Dehya, you can pull on it for 20% less Acquaint Fates and you will always get Noelle in your first 10-pull. As a note, you can only pull on the Beginners’ Wish banner 20 times (2 10-pulls) before it goes away. So if you’re adamant on getting the characters you want from this particular banner, you don’t have that many chances.
Here are the best 5-star characters in the Beginners’ Wish banner for Genshin Impact:
Jean
Jean is a 5-star Anemo Sword character who specializes in AoE healing. She’s very easy to build and Anemo characters are generally quite useful in a game that focuses on Elemental Reactions. Part of why Jean is so easy to build is because all she really wants is Attack, as her healing scales off of that. But since she naturally has high Attack, she can also fill the sub-DPS niche for you, especially in the early game when you might not have many options. One more pro in Jean’s favor is her Charged Attack, which shoves enemies into the air. You can do this to inflict fall damage or even toss them off cliffs, making some difficult fights a lot easier.
Keqing
Keqing is a 5-star Electro Sword character who’s a fantastic attacker. While Keqing is fine on her own, she really shines when you pair her with Dendro characters like Tighnari or Nahida. Another reason to choose Keqing is due to her Elemental Skill, which allows her to teleport to where she sets her Lightning Stiletto. This can trivialize some of the exploration elements and puzzles in the game, such as making it easier to reach places you’d otherwise need to climb.
Mona
Mona is a 5-star Hydro Catalyst character who’s a great support and doesn’t need a lot of Constellations to hit her maximum potential. Her Elemental Burst offers a fantastic buff and, like Jean, she can work as a sub-DPS depending on your build. While Mona works best in a Freeze team, you can also slot her with other DPS characters who can benefit from Hydro Reactions.
The thing about Mona is that, compared to Jean and Keqing, there is a learning curve. Not only does her kit rely heavily on the Elemental Reaction system, but she has an alternate sprint that may take a while to get used to. Once you do though, she’s fantastic when you want to cut through water, since she doesn’t need to swim.
Something to keep in mind about Genshin Impact is that the game is perfectly playable even if you don’t get any of the 5-stars here from the Beginners’ Wish gacha. The majority of the debut 4-stars in Genshin Impact are honestly busted. They’re viable even in late-game content and current patches, even though they’ve been in the game since launch. So if you don’t get a 5-star, but you get copies of Xiangling, Bennett, Barbara, Fischl, Sucrose, or Xingqiu, your account is still perfectly fine.
Genshin Impact is readily available on the PS4, PS5, Windows PC, and mobile devices. The Xbox Series X version will come out on November 20, 2024.
