Update 1.6 for Stardew Valley brought with it a ton of new content for players to enjoy, including some new events. One such event in Stardew Valley is the Trout Derby, which is a fun little fishing festival. Here’s what players should know about this event and how to get the highly important Golden Tags.
When Does the Trout Derby Take Place?
The Trout Derby happens once a year every single year you are playing the game. So long as you have the most updated version of the beloved farming sim, you will be able to experience the Trout Derby even if it is your first year. The Trout Derby event takes place on Summer 20 and 21, making it one of the unique multi-day festivals.
In addition, the Trout Derby is similar to the SquidFest in how this event doesn’t affect Pelican Town. All of the shops and other facilities are open the same two days this event is happening. So, you are able to buy items, talk with NPCs, see character events, and so on without worry while this is going on.
Tips for How to Win the Stardew Valley Trout Derby
The goal of the Trout Derby in Stardew Valley is to catch as many Rainbow Trout as you can in the Cindersap Forest near the river. This is because they will give you Golden Tags during these two days. This is a special currency you can use to trade for prizes like a Tent Kit, Farm Warp Totem, Omni Geode, and more.
Fortunately, it is pretty easy to get Rainbow Trout during these two days. That said, you aren’t guaranteed a Golden Tag every time you get a Rainbow Trout. It is only a 33% chance of there being a Golden Tag when you catch one of these Rainbow Trouts. So, you’ll want to spend all day catching these trouts during the event. Golden Tags do carry over throughout the years so you can save them up if there is a certain prize you have your eye on.
Stardew Valley is available right now for Android, iOS, Nintendo Switch, PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
