The original Life is Strange became an instant classic for multiple reasons, but a big part was Max and Chloe’s dynamic. From the pair hanging out in Chloe’s bedroom to sneaking into Blackwell Academy, they have many memorable moments that most people look back fondly on. With the sequel, Life is Strange: Double Exposure, now being released, you may be wondering if Chloe Price will turn up at any point. In this quick guide, we will answer this major question. There will be spoilers ahead!
Does Chloe Price Appear in Life is Strange: Double Exposure?
The short answer to this question is no. We never see Chloe Price in Life is Strange: Double Exposure. There are references to Chloe, but the context will differ depending on the answers you pick at the beginning of the game.
As a reminder, Max is presented with the ultimate moral dilemma of killing or saving Chloe at the end of the original game. If she kills Chloe, the whole town of Arcadia Bay will be saved by the monstrous storm. If she decides to save Chloe instead, the storm will unmercifully obliterate Arcadia Bay. The fandom often refers to this dilemma as Bae or Bay.
This ending was purposefully ambiguous and up to the player’s interpretation of what they perceived was the right action to take. Deck Nine has attempted to keep the spirit of this dilemma alive as you can decide what happened to Max.
Within the game’s first hour, Max will head to a bar called the Snapping Turtle with her new best friend, Safi. While the two of them are drinking, Safi will ask questions about Max’s past, and this is where you can pick your interpretation of events (like if Max and Chloe were just friends or childhood sweethearts), which will have branching effects on the story.
If you pick Chloe lived at the end of Life is Strange, the duo travelled across the country after the events of the original title. Max pursued her passion for photography, and Chloe helped out local bands on the road. However, it appears they both dealt with the event of Arcadia Bay very differently, which caused friction between them.
In a text conversation on Valentine’s Day, Max asks Chloe if she wants to settle down, which Chloe seems apprehensive about. Not too long after, Chloe separates from Max (or breaks up with her) because she feels like Max is living too much in the past. And this is all delivered in a letter, ouch! Throughout the game, you can look back on Max’s text conversations with Chloe and observe her social media posts on the platform Crosstalk, with the username of _CaptainChloe_. Max will also have a photo of them together.
At the very end of Life is Strange: Double Exposure, Chloe will send Max a text message. In this message, Chloe expresses how she hopes Max is okay as she’s heard about the news of Caledon University. This heavily implies that if Max’s journey continues, this may not be the last time we see these two interact.
On the other hand, if you decide to pick that Chloe died at the end of the previous game, all Max will have of Chloe is a photo. She often talks to Chloe’s mum (Joyce) through text messages and will have sombre internal monologues about the time she shared with Chloe. If you pick this option, there will be no text messages or social media posts from Chloe in your playthrough.
The bottom line is that no matter what you pick, you will never directly contact Chloe Price, so play Life is Strange: Double Exposure, whichever way feels most authentic to you!
Life is Strange: Double Exposure is now available for PS5, Xbox Series X and PC on October 29, 2024. There’s no release window for the Switch version yet.
