Which Starter Booster Pack to Choose in Pokemon TCG Pocket

Pokemon TCG Pocket is now available and just like in the main series of games, players have three “starters” to choose from. Rather, three free starter card booster packs to choose from when they begin. Which free starter booster pack should you choose when it comes down to Charizard, Pikachu, and Mewtwo in Pokemon TCG Pocket?

How does the free Starter Card Booster Pack work in Pokemon TCG Pocket?

Similar to the start of the mainline series games, players have three “starter” packs to choose from when you first boot up the game. You can pick between the Charizard, Pikachu, and Mewtwo booster packs. I will note right now, you are not guaranteed to get Charizard, Pikachu, and Mewtwo in these packs; you only have a chance of getting them.

You get to pick any of these three packs for your initial pack. This will determine the first five cards you get for free in the mobile game. That said, all three of these types of booster packs are available in the full game. So, you still have the chance to get all of these cards in the future.

Should I choose Charizard, Pikachu, or Mewtwo in Pokemon TCG Pocket?

Deciding which free starter booster pack to pick among Charizard, Pikachu, and Mewtwo is a tough choice in Pokemon TCG Pocket. I would say it is up to personal preference. You see, while all three pack types are part of the same Genetic Apex expansion, they don’t contain all of the same cards.

Some cards are the same throughout all three types with the same odds of receiving, such as Petilil or Heatmor. In fact, you can even get Pikachu, Mewtwo, and Charizard’s EX cards in any of the three. But other cards are exclusive, such as the Gardevoir line (Mewtwo), Wigglytuff EX (Pikachu), and Moltres (Charizard).

In general, I would say it comes down to the type of deck you want to make. Though all decks have cards of almost every typing, some specialize in them. For instance, if you want Fire and Fighting types, I suggest Charizard. If you prefer Psychic, Dragon, or Grass types, I would recommend Mewtwo. And if you prefer Electric and Water types, I’d go with Pikachu.

Pokemon TCG Pocket is available right now for free for Android and iOS.
