All Metaphor: ReFantazio Tribes, Explained

One of the key parts of the fantasy world in Metaphor: ReFantazio is the presence of numerous tribes. These tribes are a central theme in the JRPG, with racism and their place in the world being a constant point. But the different tribes can be confusing and overwhelming, so here’s everything you need to know about them in Metaphor: ReFantazio.

How many Tribes are there in Metaphor: ReFantazio?

The most defining feature of this JRPG is the fantasy world with its elaborate lore and setting. There is one part that the game will continue to note about and that is the various tribes in the world. You’ll hear tribe names like the Clemar, Elda, and so on. It can be so confusing, especially since the game takes its sweet time in explaining all of them to you.

In total, there are nine different tribes in the world. The rather problematic nature of the society means that none of the nine tribes are equal with one another, either. Sadly, some tribes are inherently more superior than others in society. There is sort of, technically, a 10th tribe with the mixed race Halfbloods who have parents of different tribes, such as in the case of Maria. But they are rare and not seen as an official tribe on its own.

All Tribes explained

The nine tribes in Metaphor: ReFantazio can be tough to keep up with regarding their various names and features. Fortunately, I have your back with a little cheat sheet. Below, you’ll find a list of all nine tribes in the world of this JRPG, including what they look like, defining features, and examples of characters that are part of that particular tribe:

  1. Clemar: These are the people with ram-like horns on their heads. Think of characters like the initial party member Strohl.
  2. Elda: This is the lowest and most hated of all tribes. They look pretty normal with no real distinct features. Example: Protagonist
  3. Eugief: These are bat-like people. They are small and have wings on their arms. Example: Heismay.
  4. Ishkia: I like to think of these tribe members as the angel tribe. They have angelic wings around their back and waist. Examples include Maria (half Ishkia) and Neuras.
  5. Mustari: These people are notable for having a third eye in the middle of their foreheads. They also wear helmets they cover their heads with and being considered pagans according to the Sanctist Church. Example: Eupha.
  6. Nidia: These rather normal human-like people have a main noticeable feature with their colorful, shiny eyes. Their eyes almost look insect-like. Example: Junah.
  7. Paripus: These are the more dog or cat-like people. They have animal ears. Example: Basilio.
  8. Rhoag: These are the darker tribe people that look pretty normal, as their most distinctive quality is how long they live. They often have grayish skin. Example: Grius.
  9. Roussainte: These are the more traditional elf-like people with the pointy ears. Example of this tribe is Hulkenberg.

Metaphor: ReFantazio is available right now for PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
