Is there Romance in Metaphor: ReFantazio

In the Persona series, you can often find love with some of the Social Links, but Atlus specifically said that the Metaphor: ReFantazio Bonds with characters wouldn’t lead to romance. Does this mean there’s no chance of finding a special someone at all?

Are there any romance options or love interests in Metaphor: ReFantazio?

So Atlus was correct when the company said the Metaphor: ReFantazio Bonds wouldn’t lead to you getting to romance the different characters in them. However, there are some moments in the game that can be read as romantic! So even though there’s no choice in the matter of who your protagonist might fall in love with or have show an interest in him, certain elements of the game do give you a chance to tease those types of relationships.

The main case of this involves Eupha. Once she joins the party in Metaphor: ReFantazio and you start talking to her, there are certain events in the main story and when you start her Bond that make it seem as though she is a possible love interest. The way she discusses a handshake with the protagonist hints that she might see him as more than a friend, and the reaction of her brother Edeni supports the idea that he may see the hero as someone who could become close to her. 

Likewise, there are moments with Junah that could make it seem like there is potential for there to be something there. Some responses you can choose during her Bond or other parts of the story could suggest a closeness, though none of them are ever as blatant as the ones that come up with Eupha. 

But one of the closest experiences that can come to a  encounter with actual dialogue options suggesting a possible romance with an actual love interest involves the Metaphor: ReFantazioDragon God Festival at Virga Island after completing the Virga Island Dragon Temple and saving Eupha. You can choose a member of your party to spend some time with during the event. Choosing Eupha as your date results in an experience that very much feels like a real date. 

If you spend time with Junah at the Dragon God Festival, it won’t feel as romantic as when you go out with Eupha. However, she will tease that maybe there could eventually be something between the two of you.

The only other character with potentially romantic language during that moment is Gallica. However, while you can choose to say you wished to get closer to Gallica at the event, she’ll brush you off and say the two of you are already close.
