Crypton Future Media’s Vocaloid record label Karent opened a new webpage to mark the 20th anniversary of MEIKO. The Vocaloid character will actually celebrate her anniversary on November 5, 2024.
Karent has also published a number of songs featuring MEIKO on digital platforms like Spotify and YouTube Music. Some of the songs included in the list are “origin” by Daibakuhasin, “History Story” by MINO-U, “Ray” by IMO, and “Fujun Doumei” by Ako.
Even though Hatsune Miku is arguably the most popular Crypton character, MEIKO is also revered in the community as her oldest senpai and senior. MEIKO was the first-ever Japanese Vocaloid released by Yamaha and Crypton Future Media on November 5, 2004. The companies used vocals from the singer-songwriter Meiko Haigo as a basis for the Vocaloid. Crypton would also occasionally include MEIKO in merchandise collections that feature Hatsune Miku and the Piapro family of Vocaloid characters.
Crypton has since released updated versions of MEIKO for newer engines. V3 appeared for the Vocaloid 3 engine in February 2014. Most recently on August 30, 2024, Crypton released Piapro Characters Super Pack, which is compatible with Vocaloid 4 and Piapro Studio. The latter also includes an even newer version of the MEIKO voice bank in MEIKO SP.
The 20th anniversary of the Vocaloid character MEIKO will fall on November 5, 2024.
