Metaphor: ReFantazio is full of different Archetypes for players to switch between, each with their own unique quirks and gimmicks. It is even possible to unlock the ability to know how to steal in Metaphor: ReFantazio with the right Archetype. Unfortunately, though, this is a pretty easy-to-miss but crucial feature of turn-based battles.
How to Unlock Stealing
To have stealing as an option in your turn-based battles, you need to have the Thief Archetype or either of its two successors. This is because one of the first skills the Thief Archetype learns is Steal. This is the only way to have this skill unless, of course, you use the Skill Inheritance system.
As you may know, if you have an unlocked Archetype and switch to another one, you can pick up to four skills (depending on your bonds) to bring over from that unlocked Archetype. So, you could unlock Thief, then get the Steal skill, and use it on any other Archetype that you have from then on.
How to Steal in Metaphor: ReFantazio
You get the Thief Archetype and, therefore, Steal skill from Heismay when he joins the party during the Martira story arc in Metaphor: ReFantazio. Once you have this Archetype and its skill, all you need to do is use Steal in battle as an action. How it works is it will try to steal an item from the enemy and it uses your Agility stat as the basis for this.
The higher your Agility stat, the better chance you will be able to steal the item. If you are using this on a character other than Heismay, who has a default high Agility stat, you will need to either raise this stat or use an equipment item. Otherwise, you may be spamming the Steal skill turn after turn in battles hoping for luck to be on your side.
Metaphor: ReFantazio is now available for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
