Should You Buy the Phantasmal Doll Accessory in Metaphor: ReFantazio?

Metaphor: ReFantazio features a ton of different accessory items for players to get. One of the most alluring ones is the Phantasmal Doll accessory with its attractive description about turn actions. However, is this a hoax or does it really make battles easier? Here’s if you should buy the Phantasmal Doll accessory or not in Metaphor: ReFantazio.

How the Phantasmal Doll Accessory Works in Metaphor: ReFantazio

The description for the Phantasmal Doll accessory simply says that its effect is it lets you do “two consecutive actions” in a row in battle. This sounds really great since it means the character with the accessory can do two moves in a row. Yes, this means the character is able to attack twice, use a skill, or even use a skill and heal back-to-back.

However, there is a catch with this. The catch is your actions use the turn icons as normal. This is the key here. You are able to have your character(s) do two actions at once but that’s it. As such, this quite expensive (at least early on) accessory may sound better than it actually is. If you want it, though, you can get it for 40,000 each at the Gloamhall shop in Grand Trad. It is only available at night.

Should You Buy the Phantasmal Doll Accessory?

To be clear, I do not think you should buy the Phantasmal Doll accessory in Metaphor: ReFantazio. I was also confused about this accessory and bought it, and it was certainly a waste of money. The reason is because, while the equipped character can use two actions in a row, those two actions still consume two actions.

For instance, let’s say you have three party members currently: the player character, Hulkenberg, and Strohl. You give this accessory to Strohl. He will now be able to attack twice and it will use two of the three actions you have per turn. This effectively means the third party member won’t be able to move each turn, for the most part. It is an almost useless accessory. The only time I can see it being useful is the rare moment where you have to fight alone as the protagonist. There is a moment partway through the game where it could be useful there, but it is still pretty pointless overall.

Metaphor: ReFantazio is now available for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
