How to Continue the Catherina Bond in Metaphor: ReFantazio

Some of the Metaphor: ReFantazio Follower relationships make building up a Bond a little more difficult or weird, and that’s the case of the Catherina one. While you meet her and unlock access to her Brawler Archetype early on, continuing to meet up with her involves quite a bit of traveling in the game.

How do I advance and continue the Catherina Bond in Metaphor: ReFantazio?

So we first meet Catherina in Metaphor: ReFantazio when going through the Regalith Grand Cathedral dungeon in Grand Trad to prevent the Day of Calamity in June. However, after that you can’t see her! If you check your Follower page in-game, which typically lets you fast travel to folks who are immediately available for Bond conversations, it will bring up how you don’t know where she is or she’s unavailable. 

The trick is that between June and September, you end up triggering the second through fourth ranks of the Catherina Bond in Metaphor: ReFantazio and advancing the relationship via traveling. Between those months as you travel around Martira, Port Brilehaven, and even before Virga Island, you will occasionally see her Gauntlet Runner on the map. Taking a path that takes you past it while you go about sidequests or regular traveling from one point to another triggers the events with her. This basically means fighting her a few times as you each show off your skills.

This trying to keep up with Catherina and run into her as you travel ends once you arrive in Altabury in September. You’ll be able to talk with her once you arrive there, and then she’ll hang around the area. From there, you don’t need to worry about running into her on the road. Her Follower Bond events will work like all others, with you sometimes getting notices in the evening hinting that she’s ready to talk and giving you a chance to visit her in an actual city. Note that at Rank 6, you need maxed out Rank 5 Tolerance to continue the relationship. 

From what I saw, Catherina is only free to talk at night, so keep that time slot open for her if you want the Martial Artist Archetype!
