Editor’s Note: There will be major Metaphor: ReFantazio spoilers regarding the prince below.

The resounding answer is: no. Read ahead for some more details if you wish to know what happens to him.

It turns out that the Protagonist is a creation of magla, responding to the prince’s desire to see the world that he reads about in his utopian novel. This is why the Protagonist shares so many similarities to the prince. Gallica runs into him soon after his creation, as he emerged from the book the prince was reading in the Eldan sanctuary. A mysterious presence alters the Protagonist and Gallica’s memories, causing them to believe that they both received the missive to meet up with Grius. However, the truth of the matter is that Gallica was the only one who had that job. The Protagonist simply tagged along as a result of this manufactured memory.

Prior to this revelation, the group journeyed to the Eldan sanctuary where the prince was. This is because the prince had woken up and Louis sent his underling there. Zorba arrives before the group can and lands a killing blow on the prince when the prince tries to protect the members of the Resistance and the citizens of the sanctuary. Once the Protagonist awakens to his true past and identity though, he returns to the prince, thus reviving him. For the rest of the game, the Protagonist’s hair and eye colors change to reflect him fully recovering his full personality. In terms of his dialogue options and reactions though, he’s still the same person.

Metaphor: ReFantazio is readily available on the PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X, and Windows PC.
