Metaphor: ReFantazio has a lot of deep, intricate systems, some of which are pretty easy to miss. For instance, in addition to weapon and armor appraisal, you can purify weapons and armor as well. To do this, players need to know how to unlock the ability to purify weapons and armor at the church in Metaphor: ReFantazio.

How to Unlock Purifying Weapons and Armor at the Church

First and foremost, the place to purify weapons is always going to be at the local church. In Grand Trad, you can find the first church on Sunlumeo Street. The only problem here is that the priest (and people in this game in general) are quite scummy and racist, so they will not offer this service to the Eldan main character initially.

The only way to unlock the purify system at the church is to reach level two for the Wisdom Royal Virtue. Once you unlock the second level of this social stat, you will be able to understand and show the priest your intelligence to be able to purify. You can raise your Wisdom sometimes with companions and side quests. However, the main way to raise Wisdom is looking out at the scenery on Sunlumeo Street. It is the marked bench by the Igniter shop. Note that sitting at the bench uses time in your day.

What Purifying Weapons and Armor Does in Metaphor: ReFantazio

Once you reach level two for the Wisdom Royal Virtue in Metaphor: ReFantazio, you are now ready to purify weapons and armor. You can think of purification as similar to appraisal but slightly different. Instead of unlocking the weapon for use through appraisal, you are already able to use impure weapons. Purifying them brings out their full potential in terms of stats and effects.

This means the weapon or armor could end up gaining much higher stats. In addition, they might gain an effect like a passive that raises your attack against certain foes. However, you can’t purify for free. You will need to spend some money and have the right materials for that particular weapon or piece of gear to be able to purify it. Thankfully, the game tells you what the purification will do beforehand so you can decide if it is worth it or not.
