James Sunderland is perhaps one of the most well known characters within the Silent Hill series, and within the survival horror genre. While I won’t get into spoilers as to why, his narrative resonated with audiences that experienced this highly regarded entry in the Silent Hill series. The original Silent Hill 2 did receive an HD version, which included original audio, so you might be wondering if Guy Cihi will reprise his role in the remake. Well, we have that answer below!
Is Guy Cihi Still James Sunderland in the Silent Hill 2 Remake?
The answer to that question is no, Guy Cihi does not reprise his role as James. While there are some neat nods to the original game in remake, he does not return to voice the character that more or less put him on the map. Additionally, no original voice track audio is available, this is due to some script changes. Which meant that if Guy Cihi and other voice actors from the original version of the game did come back, they would need to rerecord a lot of lines.
There are some pretty sizable differences in the script for the Silent Hill 2 remake, especially with specific characters like Angela, while Eddie remains virtually untouched. But that doesn’t mean the game has lost it’s spirit, or original intent.
Maybe Konami will end up bringing in the old voice actors for an extra voice track in the future, but as it stands, that doesn’t seem to be the case. Which means if you’d like to hear Guy Cihi as James, you’d need to get your hands on the HD version of the games that appeared on the PlayStation 3, or the original that released for the PlayStation 2.
The Silent Hill 2 remake will release for PC and PlayStation 5 on October 8, 2024.
