Where Is the Key on the Desk in Metaphor: ReFantazio

When heading into Regalith Grand Cathedral in Metaphor: ReFantazio to deal with Louis’ forces, you’ll meet a paripus woman named Catherina and find out about a locked room with hostages that needs a key that is “on the desk” to open. While it is sort of impossible to miss out on saving these folks, here’s where to get the key, get them out, and build a Bond with Catherina to get access to the Brawler class and some money.

Where do I find the key “on the desk” to save the hostages in Regalith Grand Cathedral in Metaphor: ReFantazio? 

When you first enter Regalith Grand Cathedral through the catacombs, there’s a cutscene you can’t miss. It introduces you to a bounty hunter named Catherina who was going to enter the church to save her missing friend that’s kidnapped inside. Because she’s hurt, the player and party steps in and gets the “A Friend in Need” sidequest. While it doesn’t mention it at this point, this search for the missing woman is also tied to the Metaphor: ReFantazio hostage situation in the church and means gaining access to a locked room via finding a key.

From this point, continue through the church. It’s a straight path with no other options where you can’t go, so don’t sweat missing anything just yet. Once things open up to the main hall, your party will overhear a conversation between two Guard Soldiers. One will mention that the hostages are in a locked room on the second floor, right near where you are. That person also notes the key is “on the desk.” Don’t worry. You didn’t accidentally miss something while heading toward this area.

Go to the first floor of this open building, to a room right underneath where you’re standing. You’ll know it is the right one, as there will be a sleeping guard at a table and automatic commentary will display. In the back corner of the room is a small table with a glowing object on it. That’s the Chamber Side Room Key you need to unlock the room with the hostages in the Metaphor: ReFantazio Regalith Grand Cathedral.

Note that if you go through the door behind the room where you get the key, you can get a Gambler’s Jewel accessory that gives a character +3 Luck when equipped.

Now that you have the key, head upstairs to the locked room. Use it, and you’ll find the missing paripus girl Catherina was searching for. You’ll also finish out the “A Friend in Need” sidequest, gaining access to the Brawler Archetype and 5,000 in cash. If you go to the treasure chest in the adjacent room, you also get the Exorcist Knuckles a Brawler can equip.
