How to Beat Vocavor in Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom

Vocavor might look like a vibrant-looking sea creature, but he is a boss battle you will face at the end of the “The Jabul Waters Rift” storyline quest. In this quest line, you will help the Zora chiefs clear rifts that are consuming the area. In this guide, we break down when you battle Vocavor and the best way to approach the fight in Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom.

When will I encounter Vocavor in Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom?

You will run into Vocavor in the Jabul Ruins, an area directly tied to “The Jabul Waters Rift” storyline quest. This is, technically, the second boss battle you encounter during this quest, as the first one, Lord Jabu-Jabu, will be blocking the entrance to Jabul Ruins.

Lord Jabu-Jabu is a somewhat easy boss battle. In the first stage, he will spit many items into the water, which you must dodge. During this part of the fight, you should summon the Chompfin echo, as he can deal a lot of damage and endure quite a few hits.

Lord Jabu-Jabu will then gobble up everything he previously spat out. When he is performing this move, you will want to summon Bombfish, which, when consumed, will cause an explosion, weakening the giant whale. Enter Swordsman mode to attack the opponent. The cycle will then repeat until the boss battle is complete.

Afterwards, you will be able to enter the Jabul Ruins. Exploring this dungeon is rather fun as it pays a lot of homage to the Water Temple, so fans of the older titles will rejoice in seeing its inclusion. You will find Vocavor in the last room of the Jabul Ruins.

How do I beat Vocavor in Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom?

In comparison to the previous boss fight, Vocavor includes many more phases. Vacavor will swim away from you when the battle starts and let cyclones loose. These whirlwinds will be placed in different locations in the water but will move horizontally, so they are easy to avoid.

On the top of Vocavor’s back are blue bubbles. Your aim is to land a successful attack on this spot so the enemy becomes susceptible to damage. A great way of doing this is swimming as close as possible to the bubbles on his back and summoning the Chompfin echo. When you have achieved this, the sea-like creature will float upside down. Transform into Swordsman mode, and attack Vocavor with your sword. When Vacavor becomes conscious again, he will flip around, so you will want to swim away as fast as you can, or you will incur damage. The sea creature will swim away and will repeat the cyclone move.

When Vocavor enters phase two, portions of the room will empty of water. This means it will become harder to land attacks on the bubbles on his back. Swim as high as possible, and wait for Vocavor to swim by. Then summon the Chompfin echo, which should be able to land an attack from the distance you are at. If done correctly, he will become weak again.

Vocavor will move around the room rapidly in the last phase while implementing cyclone attacks. This part of the boss battle will require you to freestyle more, but we recommend staying as high as possible and summoning the Chompfin when you are close by. At the very end, he will drop one massive cyclone, so make sure to evade that. After you’ve beaten Vacavor, you will be rewarded with a Piece of Heart.

The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom is available for the Nintendo Switch.
