Hardcore fans of the franchise will remember Volvagia from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, and he is back in the new game Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom. But this time, the mythological dragon is not occupying the Fire Temple. This guide gives you a rundown on how to beat Volvagia in Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom.
When will I encounter Volvagia in The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom?
You will encounter the almighty fire-breathing dragon during the main storyline. In “The Rift on Eldin Volcano” quest, you will help the new chief, Darston, close rifts opening up in the local area. At one point, you will venture to the Eldin Temple.
There are two boss battles in Eldin Temple. The first one will happen on 2F, where you fight an echo of Link, which is reasonably simple to defeat if you maintain height and use long-ranged echoes. After this battle, you will obtain the Bombs of Might for Swordsman mode. You will find the second boss battle, Volvagia, lurking on 3F at the very end of the Eldin Temple.
How do I beat Volvagia in Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom?
Volvagia is arguably one of the easier boss battles in Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom. However, the fight may take some time, as you must regularly dodge incoming attacks.
When the boss battle immediately starts, Volvagia will unleash a green orb from its necklace pendant, which can cause damage on contact. Avoid this green orb, travel to the far left, and go on the middle platform next to Volvagia. You will then want to bind Tri to Volvagia and walk backwards. This action will pull off the necklace pendant, making Volvagia vulnerable to attacks. Jump onto the same platform Volvagia is on, switch into Swordsman mode and land as many attacks as possible.
Volvagia will eventually shake off the vulnerability and will fly around the room. Stay away from Volvagia until it flies into the lava and reappears in a new spot. A small note is that Volvagia’s new location will sometimes be in the lava itself rather than a platform. To attack Volvagia when they are weak in lava, you will want to use long-range attacks like arrows and bombs.
The ancient dragon will now add two more attacks to its movement pool. The first one will be a big blast of fire, which will scorch a platform’s floor. Keep away from this platform when it’s bright red, and if you have problems navigating around the area, use the Lava Rock echo to create a new platform to travel more freely. The second will be Volvagia breathing out several fireballs that you must avoid. A good way of blocking the fireballs is also utilising the Lava Rock echo. Repeat the process above until you defeat Volvagia.
When you have fished the boss battle, you will be rewarded with 5 Might Crystals and a Piece of Heart.
