After fixing the Hyrule Castle rift and starting to work on the Eldin Volcano, Mount Lanaryu, and Faron Wetlands ones, you may return to the castle region and realize one of the men at the gate is ready to offer you a “One Soldier too Many” sidequest about a suspicious person in The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom. However, you need to pay attention to spot the odd person out.
Who is the suspicious soldier in “One Soldier too Many” in The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom?
So first, get through the first half of the game. After the Hyrule Castle rift is fixed and you’re working on the next three, you may notice one of the two soldiers standing guard at the front gates to Hyrule has a sidequest indicator overhead. Talk to Beecher to find out there’s one too many people around after the rift was repaired. It seems like one of them could be an evil echo. It is up to you to investigate and find out what is going on.
Basically, you need to talk to three specific soldiers in this first part of the quest. The first is one who is standing in front of the fountain on the main road into the castle town. This person explains their lance broke during training and they had to get new equipment. Next, go to the western most wall, next to the well, and talk to the soldier standing there. That one will recommend talking to the person stationed in the barracks to ask if equipment an echo could have stolen is missing. From there, head into the barracks right next to the well in-town and talk to the person inside to find that the old, damaged equipment from the soldier you spoke to near the fountain was stolen.
Here are screenshots I took showing where all of these soldiers you should talk to during “One Soldier too Many” are in The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom.
That last conversation will prompt Beecher to come in. You can now pin down who the suspicious soldier is in The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom. In case you didn’t notice while wandering around to speak to those earlier three, it is the one directly next to the well. During the conversation with Beecher, you must select the responses “near the well” and “the lance.”
Here’s a screenshot I took of the suspicious soldier in question in The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom. Note that while you can question the person, you can not capture or call them out for being suspicious.
Giving those correct two responses in the conversation above, based on knowledge gleaned from that screenshot, will result in the mystery being solved. You’ll also get a Golden Egg you can use for a future smoothie.
The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom is available for the Nintendo Switch.
