Flappy Bird (the official version of the game) will return to Android and iOS devices in 2025. Though this is the original version of the game that came out all those years ago, a different publisher will be putting it into the app store. [Thanks, DiscussingFilm!]
The Flappy Bird Foundation Group purchased the trademark and rights to Flappy Bird from the original developer and it’ll be putting it back into the app store. There’s some more information regarding the revival of this viral game on its website. For instance, there will be new characters to unlock, as well as new game modes to try.
You can watch the trailer for the returning Flappy Bird here:
Dong Nguyen released Flappy Bird in 2013 as a casual mobile side-scroller. In the game, you play as a bird that you have to tap to keep in the air. The goal is to fly for as long as possible without hitting any of the green pipes protruding from the ground or ceiling. It was one of the most downloaded games at the time and Nguyen said that it was earning him $50,000 a day. The game was addictive to the point that Nguyen removed it from the App Store and Google Play out of guilt. There have been many clones of the game since then, though none ever reached the heights of popularity that the original Flappy Bird enjoyed.
Flappy Bird will return to mobile devices some time in 2025. More information on the exact release window will appear in the future.
