Midways’s Mortal Kombat reboot, due for release in Aprill 2011, comes in three packages: Standard, Kollector’s, and Tournament. Pre-ordering any of these versions at different will net you a different classic playable character skin and their original Fatality.
A Gamestop pre-order will give you a classic Scorpion, Best Buy are siding with Sub-Zero, and Amazon’s pre-order covers Reptile (who looks like he needs it the most). Pre-orders are up now, in case you’re wondering.
Don’t worry though; you won’t need to buy all three versions to get all three skins. Earlier today, the official Mortal Kombat Twitter stated: “We don’t expect you to buy 3 copies of Mortal Kombat to get classic skins. #BePatient”
Now on to the different packages themselves. The Kollector’s Edition comes with the game, Sub-Zero and Scorpion figurines, an art book, downloadable content that includes a fourth classic skin and avatar costumes.
Meanwhile, the Tournament Edition, which looks to be the coolest for collectors, comes with the game and a portable Mortal Kombat fight stick-cum-case suited specifically to MK. In addition, the Tournament Edition also includes the fourth classic skin and avatar costumes.
The MK Twitter also mentioned a few other points of interest. First, yes, Europeans will also be getting something, and are asked to wait for information in “the coming weeks.” Second, you might be able to buy the Mortal Kombat fight stick separately, but don’t take that as a confirmation just yet.
